<p>Filtration apparatus, particularly for water, comprises a chamber (10) with an inlet pipe (20) and an outlet pipe (24) all disposed co-axially. The inlet and outlet pipes have open ends inclined to the axis. The open end of the outlet tube is covered with a filter (34) in the form of a mesh or screen. Openings (30) in the side of the outlet pipe are also covered by a similar filter (31). In use fluid from the inlet tends to flow across the upper filter (34) and keep it clean. The inclined ends of the inlet and outlet pipes are askew to encourage the fluid in the chamber to rotate and clean the lower filter (31). Such rotation also causes filtered matter to be moved radially outwards. Filtered matter can be removed through a discharge port (36). The filters can be cleaned by a reverse flow of fluid through the perforated end part (41) of a pipe (39) extending into the outlet tube. <IMAGE></p> |
