The invention relates to a circulation breathing apparatus whose breathing-out line is connected to the breathing-in line via a CO2 absorber and a compensating container. In order to make such an appliance usable also for so-called superatmospheric pressure operation, the compensating container is loaded by an external force which maintains a pressure increase in it sufficient for superatmospheric pressure operation. In this case, it is particularly favourable to conduct the force acting on the compensating container away from the mean pressure of the system so that, regardless of the amplitude of the compensating container, the force acting on it remains the same.
