The invention provides a roof rack for a vehicle, especially for a car or a small bus, which roof rack is composed of at least two transverse supports, which are releasably connected to the roof of the vehicle by means of feet, and is designed to transport goods of very different types. To achieve this, the transverse supports are connected by means of two guide rails, which are arranged on the longitudinal sides of a sheet which is supported by a frame. At least two parts of an essentially box-shaped roof are displaceably mounted in the guide rails. This results in formation of a luggage space, which can be secured by means of locks, between the sheet and the roof. When the roof rack is used without the roof, articles can be transported which are longer and/or wider and/or higher than the roof.
