The roof rack to be fastened on a roof rail of motor vehicles is equipped with fastening elements in the form of clamp fittings (13, 31), which are positively held in a supporting tube (5, 6) of the roof rack by means of holding shoulders (17, 18; 25 and 34, 35, 39, 40 respectively) which prevent raising of the supporting tube from the roof rail. At least one clamping screw (23; 42) is provided in order to produce, by means of the clamp fitting, a clamping connection between the supporting tube (5, 6) and the rail tube (3). A locking device (26) is provided at the end of the supporting tube to prevent displacement of the holding shoulders of the clamp fitting out of the supporting tube in the blocked condition. Removal of the supporting tube (5, 6) and therefore of the entire roof rack from the rail tube (3) is therefore impossible unless the locking device is unblocked, in the case of which locking device, a locking bolt (28) of a lock (27) engages in a bore of the supporting tube and therefore holds a blocking part (30) in the supporting tube, which blocking part blocks the aperture through which the holding shoulders of the clamp fittings can be removed out of the tube. <IMAGE>
