The invention relates to an anti-skid device for vehicle wheels, with tyres, in particular pneumatic tyres, for icy and snow-covered surfaces. In order to increase the grip of vehicle wheels on icy and snow-covered surfaces, the anti-skid device consists of an annular cover disc which lies in the outer surface area of the tyre and has anti-skid arms which are arranged radially and in fixed fashion and consist of spring steel and of a clamping disc, formed on the rim, for the cover disc, which clamping disc together with the anti-skid arms are pretensioned in such a way that the anti-skid arms rest on the tread of the tyre in the operating position, as a result of which the grip of the vehicle tyres on the undersurface is improved without the driving properties of the vehicle being adversely affected. <IMAGE>
