A solar energy trap has a hollow heat absorbant panel made from two sheets of elastomeric material bonded together at their borders and sepd. by internal pillars integral with one of the sheets. Used for systems involving a liq. heat transfer fluid flowing through the absorbant panel, esp. for systems operating at above or below ambient pressure. The internal pillars prevent collapse of the panel when operating at sub-ambient pressure. Avoids problems of construction and thermal gradients associated with panels fabricated using components made of different materials. The panels can be produced without requiring a complex mould tool.
