PURPOSE:To lower electrolytic voltage and decrease the consumption of electric power used for electrolysis, by using the cathode of specified composition contacting to the diaphragm in electrolizing NaCl aqueous solution in a diaphragm type electrolytic cell using a cation exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:When NaOH and Cl gas are manufactured by electrolizing the NaCl aqueous solution in the electrolizing cell using a cation exchange membrane as a diaphragm, the cation exchange membrane is made of perfluorocarbon type material as the skeleton and of perfluorocarbon copolymer having sulfonic radical, sulfonic radical and carboxyl radical or carboxyl radical as an ion exchange radical. And the polymer film having sulfonic radical of exchange capacity 0.9-2.5meq/g is press-bonded to the cathode face, the electrolysis treatment is performed at the state contacting the cathode and the cation exchange membrane. The bath voltage in the electrolysis can be lowered and the electric power for electrolysis is decreased. |
