PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high titer recombinant influenza viruses for vaccines.SOLUTION: The invention provides a composition useful in preparing high titer influenza viruses, e.g., in the absence of helper viruses, including at least five internal genes from an influenza virus isolate that replicates to high titers in embryonated chicken eggs or MDCK cells.SELECTED DRAWING: None
