Novel substituted 2-mercaptoimidazoles of the formula (I) in which at least one of the radicals R1 and R2 is a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl group and the other is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, R3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, n is 0, 1 or 2 and R4 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical and their pharmaceutically usable salts exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive and/or antithrombotic activity.
