PURPOSE:A composition for swine exhibiting an improved preventing and remedying effect on swine dysentery, promoting the growth of swine and improving the utility of a feed, comprising leankacidin as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising lankacidin shown by the formulaI(R<1> is O or a group shown by the formula II; R<2> and R<3> are H or lower fatty acid residue), an antibiotic or its derivative separated from a culture of Streptomyces rochei var. volubilis as an active ingredient. The fermentation medium of the production bacterium can be used directly or as a dried material or extract. Preferably the dose of the compound shown by the formulaIis 0.06-25mg per kg weight of swine daily for preventing swine dysentery, 0.1-25mg per kg weight of swine for remedying swine dysentery, and 0.025-10mg for promotion of growth. |
