Dynamo lighting system for bicycle or invalid carriage - uses excess dynamo capacity to charge nickel-cadmium batteries which power lights while vehicle is stationary

The system uses storage batteries which are charged by the dynamo while the vehicle is in motion, and then provide power to maintain the lighting while the vehicle is stationary. The dynamo capacity (500 mA) is in excess of the current drawn by the vehicle lamps (350 mA) and the surplus capacity (150 mA) is available to recharge the nickel-cadmium type storage batteries which are limited to 50 mA charging current to prolong battery life. The batteries, rectifiers, and charging regulation circuits are housed in an impact resistant box mounted on the frame of the vehicle, and the total system weighs less than 200 grammes.
