Such a hydraulic safety brake valve (1) is arranged in the feed lines (5, 6 and 14, 15) of a double-acting hydraulic consumer (2) under initial load. When the initial load is lowered in the direction of the arrow (26), uncontrolled lowering in the event of a pipe fracture is prevented by a choke valve (7) being arranged in the lifting line (5, 6). The choke valve (7) is controlled by a flow meter (50) which is arranged in the lowering line (14, 15). The flow meter (50) is a differential-pressure valve.
