The invention makes available a piezoelectric transducer which is distinguished in that it is constructed as a probe having a rod-shaped piezoceramic part which is provided in an elongated housing with the geometrical dimensions of an otological instrument for use under an operation microscope in operations to improve hearing. The changes in length of the rod-shaped piezoceramic part in physiological region corresponding to the physiological amplitude of vibration of the eardrum (approx. 10<-5> to approx. 10<-4> m) occur for an operating voltage of 1 mV to at most 1 kV. The invention also comprises the application of this piezoelectric transducer as a probe for coupling mechanical vibrational energy into the middle ear system in a punctiform fashion.
