A high voltage source comprises a lever (12) producing a squeezing action on a piezo electric crystal (42) in which the squeezing force is partly balanced by the restoring force exerted by a second crystal (40) acting through a second lever (12') and which is allowed to relax as the first mentioned crystal (42) is squeezed. The two levers (12, 12') each act on one of the crystals and are separated by a rolling member (38; 58) which transmits drive from one lever to the next, and a rotating cam acts on one of the levers.
