PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device that can increase the analog-to-digital conversion speed without greatly increasing power consumption.SOLUTION: The solid-state image pickup device includes a pixel for performing photoelectric conversion, a comparison circuit for comparing a reference signal varying with a gradient and an output signal of the pixel, and a counter for receiving a comparison result of the comparison circuit and counting up until the magnitude relationship between the reference signal and the output signal of the pixel is reversed. When the output signal of the pixel is within a first range, the comparison circuit compares the output signal of the pixel and the first reference signal. When the output signal of the pixel is within a second range, the comparison circuit compares the output signal of the pixel and the second reference signal. The comparison range of the first reference signal to be compared by the comparison circuit and the comparison range of the second reference signal to be compared by the comparison circuit are different from each other. The absolute value of the gradient of the first reference signal and the absolute value of the gradient of the second reference signal are different from each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11 |
