A centrifuge for separating the solid and liquid components of a suspension, in particular of a suspension containing poisonous or radioactive components, has a drum which is composed of a drum floor and a drum wall and is surrounded by a centrifuge housing on the drum opening lying opposite the drum floor, on the opening edge of which drum opening a radially inwardly directed overflow weir is constructed which terminates with an overflow edge, devices being provided for charging the drum with suspension and for discharging the solid components by means of rinsing devices. In order to be able to discharge a larger portion of useful liquid or of liquid components out of the drum in undiluted form and in order to ensure that a complete discharge of the solid components takes place, the drum is mounted in the manner of a bell with a downwardly directed drum opening, the overflow edge (13) being assigned an annular liquid collection vessel (14), fixed to the housing, which is at a radial distance from the axis of the drum which is greater than the radial distance from the overflow edge (13). <IMAGE>
