A method of forming a connection for a polyolefin insulated electric wire or cable comprises applying a cross-linkable reinforcing insulation layer (3) around a connection part (1), providing around said reinforcing insulation layer (3) a heat shrinkable tube (6) comprising an integrated assembly of at least two cylindrical heat shrinkable semiconductive layers (4) in combination with each other through an insulation material (5), and then heating said tube (6) under pressure to effect cross-linking of said reinforcing insulation layer (3) and cause said reinforcing layer (3) to become integrated with said heat shrinkable tube (6).
