The weft yarns (Wa, Wb) are drawn off from various supply bobbins (Va, Vb) and are inserted according to a predetermined weft pattern by a first and a second nozzle arrangement (2 and 3, 4 respectively). For at least part of the second nozzle arrangement, which is formed by auxiliary blowing nozzles (4) and a tensioning nozzle (3), a different feed pressure for the various types of weft yarn is selected and this is changed in synchronism with the weft pattern. Types of weft yarns which it has hitherto been impossible to combine with one another can also thereby be inserted in a disturbance-free and fault-free manner, because the individual types of weft yarn, during their insertion, are transported as effectively as possible and with great care and, are kept tensioned without ever being damaged. <IMAGE>
