PURPOSE:A microorganism resistant to actithiazic acid or both actithiazic acid and 5-(2-thienyl)valeric acid is cultured to produce a substance with biotin activity in high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium in Bacillus, having resistance to actithiazic acid or both actithiazic acid and 5-(2-thienyl)valeric acid and producing a substance with biotin activity, is cultured in a medium to accumulate biotin. As the above bacterium, is cited a mutant obtained by treating Bacillus sphericus IFO3525 with N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine. For the culture medium, carbohydrates such as starch or saccharides, alcohols such a glycerol and hydrocarbons such as kerosine are used as carbon sources. As nitrogen sources, are used pepton, yeast essence, organic substances such as urea, or inorganic substances such as ammonium salts and nitrates. |
