The invention relates to a device in which the body part (4) to be examined projects over an opening (3) in a liquid vessel (6) containing a liquid which is highly conductive of ultrasonic waves and via which the body part can be coupled to a rotatable ultrasonic scanning system (12), and in which the liquid vessel is located in a second vessel. It is the object of the invention to provide a device which does not give rise to any problems with regard to sealing and electrical insulation of the ultrasonic scanning system. It should preferably be possible to employ a commercially available ultrasonic scanning system which can be removed again if desired and be used at another site. This object is achieved, according to the invention, in that the second vessel (9) is free from liquid and that at least this vessel is rotatable about an axis of rotation (38) pointing in the direction of the opening (10) in the liquid vessel (6) and that the ultrasonic scanning system (12) is located in the second vessel, such that it is coupled to the liquid vessel (6) and is rotatable together with the second container at the coupling site. <IMAGE>
