PURPOSE:To manufacture economically a negative electrode having quick charge capability by coating narrow conductive porous strip with CdO paste and installing ribbon projections on the coated surface and flattening the projections and partly charging it continuously. CONSTITUTION:Powder mainly comprising CdO or Cd(OH)2 is made in paste state with a binder solution. When this paste is spreaded on a narrow conductive porous strip to make a negative electrode, ribbon projections are formed on the surface of a coated layer. These projections are flattened under pressure to form partly low porosity portions and mainly high porosity portions. Then, the coated strip is partly charged continuously to form metal Cd on the coated layer. Since the low porosity portions have good charging efficiency to convert CdO to metal Cd, a desired amount of metal Cd can be obtained with small amount of charging electricity. |
