PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium of a ferromagnetic thin metallic film type having excellent traveling stability and durability, by providing an adsorbent layer for a rust inhibitor on the surface of a ferromagnetic thin metallic film formed on a nonmagnetic substrate and providing a lubricant layer on the adsorbent layer. CONSTITUTION:The example wherein an adsorbent layer 3'' for a rust inhibitor and a lubricant layer 4'' thereon are allowed to exist on the surface of a ferromagnetic thin metallic film 2'' consisting of the columnar crystal structure obtained by vapor-depositing a ferromagnetic metal diagonally in the presence of a very small amt. of gaseous oxygen and coated with an oxide layer on the surface is shown in the figure. A plastic film such as a polyester film, a polyimide film or the like is used as the nonmagnetic substrate. The ferromagnetic thin metallic film consists of iron, cobalt, nickel or their alloy formed on a substrate by vacuum deposition, ion plating, sputtering, etc. Rust inhibitors used for general metals are usable as the rust inhibitor to form the adsorbent layer for the rust inhibitor for the ferromagnetic thin metallic film wherein oxygen is not particularly contained. |
