PURPOSE:To obtain a spacer which improves responsiveness by making the gap between both glass substrates fine, by forming an insulating film on one glass substrate of a liquid crystal display element, etching this insulating film and executing patterning. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2 and an oriented film 3 for controlling liquid crystal molecular orientation are formed successively on the surface of a glass substrate 1. First of all, an insulating film 4 made of SiO2, Al2O3, etc. is formed on the oriented film. Subsequently, plural resist patterns 5 are formed at a prescribed arrangement on the insulating film 4, patterning of the insulating film 4 is executed by a method of chemical etching, etc., and a spacer 6 is formed. In this case, the spacer 6 is formed by the same pattern as the resist pattern 5. Subsequently, the other glass substrate 7 is opposed to the glass substrate 1 through the spacer 6, both the glass substrates are adhered by a thermosetting organic material, and thereafter, a liquid crystal is charged into the enclosed space between both the glass substrates, by which a liquid crystal display element is constituted. |
