摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To prevent effluence of the uncombusted intake gas into an exhaust system and permit the number of operating cylinders to be smoothly switched, by installing a crank angle detector onto an engine with controlled number of operating cylinder and allowing switching of the intake and the exhaust valves according to the detected load to be synchronized with a crank angle signal. CONSTITUTION:An intake amount sensor 19 and a throttle-valve sensor 21 are installed into an intake passage 18 connected to a suspension-side cylinder 2 and an operation-side cylinder not shown in the figure, and a crank-angle sensor 27 is installed onto a distributor 25. An actuator 15 for switching intake and exhaust valves 1 and 17 is installed onto the suspension-side cylinder 2, and switching is carried-out by a control circuit 29. The crank-angle sensor generates pulses at every exhaust top dead center of each cylinder. When switching to partial cylinder operation from the whole cylinder operation is performed by allowing the switching of the number of operating cylinders to be synchronized with the crank-angle signal, the uncombusted mixed-gas is confined in the suspension-side cylinder and when the whole cylinder operation is recovered, the suspension-side cylinders are started in operation after the mixed-gas is combusted at first.</p>
