<p>PURPOSE:To enable the switching between the operation and the non-operation of an air intake and exhaust valve to be made quickly by a method wherein a high pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber are defined by a plunger provided with an orifice passage having a check ball provided therein and a pressure oil in the high pressure chamber is discharged into the low pressure chamber by pressing the check ball through an electromagnetic mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A hole 17 is formed in a rocker arm 15 provided on the upper part of the cylinder head 1. Further, the orifice passage 43 having the check ball 49 provided therein is formed in the lower wall of the plunger 35. In the ordinary operation, the check ball 49 blocks a valve seat, a slide member 19 is held stationary and the valve is moved vertically by the rotation of a cam 3. When the electromagnetic mechanism 51 is excited, a rod 59 lowers the check ball 49 so that the pressure oil in the high pressure chamber is discharged into the low pressure chamber and so the operation of the valve is stopped. As a result, it is possible to perform quickly the switching operation between the operation and the non-operation of the valve.</p> |
