A work-holding and work-feeding fixture has a work-clamping device (2, 3) which can be moved in a reciprocating manner in the feed and return direction (8, 9). A control device (22, 23, 24) controls the clamping and release of the workpiece in the clamping device (2, 3). The control device (22, 23, 24) is influenced by the feed and return movement (8, 9) in such a way that the workpiece is clamped during a moving stage which is allocated to the machining operation and is released at a location offset in the return direction with regard to this moving stage for inserting the workpiece to be machined and for removing the machined workpiece. <IMAGE>
