The invention relates to a circuit arrangement with an optical transmitter, which contains a control loop within a control loop to control the optical output power. In a circuit arrangement of this type, it is to be possible for the optical transmitter to be modulated or controlled. For this purpose, the invention provides that, to the output of the ideal value generator, a further ideal value generator can be connected whose internal resistance is substantially lower than the internal resistance of the first ideal value generator to which the further ideal value generator is attached. The circuit arrangement can be used advantageously for fast de-activation of laser transmitters if an interruption occurs in an optical waveguide connected downstream. <IMAGE>
