Isolator (or interrupter or switch), in which the moving contacts 3 are, after contacting the fixed contacts 1, 2, driven by a mechanism 17, 18 actuated by the operating shaft 6 so as to glide over the fixed contacts, under a pressure comparable with their normal service pressure. This gliding under pressure is intended to expel the dirt deposited between the contacts or to brighten the surface of the contacts which may have suffered detrimental corrosion, for example sulphuration of the silver. <IMAGE>
