Anti-skid chain for vehicle wheels, which is constructed in particular as a track crosschain, having a holding ring (1) which is arranged on the inside of the tyre and is made of spring steel wire which is open at one point and has a hook closure (2). The hook closure (2) consists of a closure hook (6) at one end (1a) of the holding ring (1) and of a closure eye (7) at the other end (1b) of the ring. The closure eye (7) has a running-up face (8) for the closure hook (6) lying opposite, said face being directed obliquely towards the external circumference of the holding ring (1) and being inclined in such a way that the closure hook (6) is forced outwards when introduced into the closure eye (7) by sliding along the running-up oblique face (8) opposite the eye web (9) and moves automatically into its locked position. <IMAGE>
