Handling appliance for tall rack stores. A slide (11) movable in the vertical direction is arranged on a mast (8) movable in the horizontal direction. The slide (11) also guides a hoist cage (12). A supporting structure (14) is cantilevered above the hoist cage (12). A gripping device (15) is suspended on the supporting structure (14). The gripping device (15) can be swivelled by means of a rotary disc (19) and can be moved up and down on a vertical supporting arm (18). Furthermore, a lateral transfer movement of the gripping device (15) is possible in a linear guide (22). With the gripping device (15), pallets (7) can be picked up from the floor (30) and can be moved into an easy access position close to the hoist cage (12). <IMAGE>
