The invention relates to a gear-shift device for multi-speed hub gears for bicycles or the like, which device is rotatably arranged at the end of the hub axle and can be actuated by a manual switch by means of a control cable with continuous cable sheath. The gear shift housing comprises two shells which are held together by means of a bearing bolt which serves as bearing for a lockable angular lever which itself transmits the movement of the gear-shift control cable to a gear-shift rod which is guided in the hollow axle of the hub and itself controls the hub gear shift elements. The angular lever is locked in the gear shift stages by means of a latch which is arranged on the said lever and can interact with catches provided in the housing shells. The release of the gear-shift device from a catch position and its renewed engagement is achieved by means of a special design of the bearing bore of the angular lever. <IMAGE>
