A sprung brake apparatus including a casing in which is mounted a plunger (33), which on its one side is joined to a spring chamber and on the other is connected to a rod (42,62). The spring (21) is arranged in the spring chamber so as to press the plunger and thereby the plunger rod axially away from the spring chamber in order to apply the brakes. The spring is designed to work essentially across the spring chamber, and a power transfer mechanism (3,5,9) is fitted in the spring chamber to change the cross movement of the spring into an axial movement onto the plunger. This power transfer mechanism (3,5,9) includes curved cams (3,5) essentially interacting with the spring (21), one (3) fixed to the casing, one (5) movable and attached to the pressure piston. When the brakes are applied, the spring forces apart the X-shaped, overlapping, fixed and moving curved cams (3,5).<IMAGE> |
