The invention relates to a back-up device which can be incorporated into culture containers and is intended to moisten and aerate the ball enclosing the roots of a plant and to facilitate monitoring and transplantation thereof. This device essentially comprises a flexible removable casing 2, a rack 9, a water-reserve dish 16 and a moisture-control means 8. The removable flexible casing 2 is split over its entire height and the edges of the split 3 are equipped with temporary joining means, such as hooked velvet (Velcro) or loops 4 and pin 5. The casing is supported by means of a reed 13 slipped into a hem 14 and by a semi-rigid profiled section 15 which fits over the edge of the pot. This device is intended for equipping ornamental flower containers or pots, or for the intensive horticulture industry. <IMAGE>
