The invention relates to an arrangement and construction of a Curtis wheel in a steam turbine to take in the minimum possible power loss due to friction, turbulence etc., and, in terms of the process involved, this requires a newly specified wheel diameter and an associated speed of rotation. This arrangement can be used at several points in a turbine, each individual Curtis wheel providing a circumferential efficiency of eta u = 0.96 compared to hitherto known constructions at eta u = 0.5 to 0.65. The invention relates specifically to impulse turbines with a relatively low speed of rotation of the Curtis wheel, such as, for example, for marine drives, as a topping wheel in large turbines or for small turbines. Primarily for turbines which, by virtue of their structure, require a relatively low steam throughput and which have to cope with a small space and weight requirement for the machine system. What is claimed as the invention is the constructional arrangement of a steam turbine, equipped with one or more Curtis wheels, with a speed of rotation u = 122.6 m/s of the rotor wheel having a rotor wheel diameter D = 0.43 m.
