The punch base has an elongated laminar form, being designed to receive one or more punches. A suitable punch comprises a base plate and a hinged cover plate, the base plate being equipped with punch studs whilst the cover is provided with die holes. The base is also equipped with cross pieces by which paper sheets are both located and centred. The cross pieces may have one or more shaped legs and the base may be marked off as a scale. The extreme scale marks may define the centres of the crosspieces with the distance between them corresponding to a standard sheet size. An alternative detail may accommodate two punches in bays formed by an intermediate cross piece, the base including holes for file pins or suspension hooks.
