In order to prevent any increase of the oscillating mass of a valve operating lever (3) due to a mechanical valve play adjustment device, the oscillating lever (3) comprises a main part (6) and a thrust piece (7) carrying the bearing surface (5) for the valve shaft (1), which both bear on one another by surfaces provided with teeth (8); their cohesion is ensured by means of a connecting piece (10) engaging in recesses (14, 15) in both parts (6, 7) of the oscillating lever (3) and removable for adjustment. The surfaces carrying the teeth (8) run obliquely to the direction of movement of the bearing surface (5), at least in an extreme oscillation position of the oscillating lever (3). <IMAGE>
