The cutting blade (1) is in the form of a regular polygon, with an uneven number of sides forming the cutting edges (1A,1B,1C...). The blade (1) rotates on a slide (2) on a geometric axis at right angles to the direction (f) of slide movement. The blade (1) is temporarily held (7,9,14) at a given angular pitch, so that a point of the polygon lies on a radius at right angles to the direction (f) of slide (2) movement for a cutting action by one or other of the adjacent cutting edges, enclosing the point, in the slide movement direction. The angular pitch of the blade is automatically switched (21,23,24) at the end of the slide (2) movement. The cutting edge grinders (4,5) are located on the path of the cutting edges diametrically opposite to the points and aligned parallel to the slide's movement.
