Cylinder has a conical surface, which tapers inwards, at its end on the yarn entry side. The yarn can be guided to the conical surface by the yarn supply element. The surface adjoins a cylindrical coating surface, from which the yarn can be removed by the yarn removal element. The conical surface is elastic and forms a 5-20 deg. angle with the storage cylinder axis. It formed by a number of adjacent, rigid fingers (18), which are elastically mounted at one end, or it can be formed out of bristles pref. made of plastics.Pref. the revolving storage cylinder (3) is mounted in a housing-like holder and connected via a shaft to belt pulleys (5,6) which couple the cylinder to a drive unit via a belt. The holder features a yarn guide eye (7), which leads the yarn (8) coming from a package via a yarn tensioning device (9) to a yarn supply eye which is located on the bottom side of the holder and from which the yarn is deposited on the storage cylinder in the form of a coil (11).
