The method densimetrically separates the particles of an ore 28 or other mineral using a hydrocyclone in a dense medium. It involves mixing 10 the ore particles with a dense liquor formed by a suspension 22 of fine particles of a densifying medium in a liquid. This mixture is divided 12 into a fraction with high density and a fraction with low density by a hydrocyclone. Each fraction is drained 14, 16 in order to separate the ore particles from the dense liquor, which is recycled. In order to facilitate the drainage of the high density fraction and to reduce the losses of the densifying medium, the high density fraction is diluted, before draining, with a liquid obtained by clarification of some or all of the dense liquid separated by draining the low density fraction. <IMAGE>
