The invention relates to a multiphase AC tachometer generator whose phase voltages are linearly rectified using a switching rectifier. In this case, a particularly small ripple is achieved by using only the environment of the extremes if a generator is employed which generates flattened sinusoidal curves. The phase voltages converted into square waves deliver the signals for actuating the switches after logical combination. By additionally converting the phase square-wave voltages, it is possible to achieve directly a tacho DC voltage whose sign depends on the sense of rotation. <IMAGE>
