Method of producing workpieces with polygonal outer and/or inner contour, preferably by machining, the workpiece to be machined rotating at constant speed about a fixed axis, while the tool is guided on a path curve closed upon itself, the rotary speed of the workpiece and the revolving speed of the tool on its path curve being dependent upon one another, and furthermore the tool acting on the workpiece during the entire revolution, the tool being guided in a revolving manner on a path curve which differs from a circle, is closed upon itself and is covered by the tool at a rate of motion changing during a revolution according to a predetermined law of motion, and the path curve lying eccentrically to and enclosing the axis of rotation of the workpiece.
