A device for controlling the amount of liquid delivered by a pump pressure line, especially for liquids polluted with coarse substances, comprises an expansion chamber (9) arranged at the end of a pump pressure line, with an enlarged cross section compared to the pump pressure line, a discharge channel (16), which is connected to the expansion chamber (9) and discharges the liquid from the expansion chamber to an outlet line (18), an overflow device, which keeps the liquid level in the expansion chamber (9) and in the discharge channel (16) essentially constant, and a collecting chamber (10), in which the quantity of liquid passing through the overflow device is caught and from which it is led back into the pump sump. For controlling the liquid pumped from the discharge channel (16) a height-adjustable weir is provided. <IMAGE>
