A control device for controlling an internal combustion comprising: a control unit operatively connected to the internal combustion engine, the control unit configured to perform a fuel supply stop control that stops a fuel supply to a combustion chamber; and an exhaust gas purification device that purifies exhaust gas emitted from the combustion chamber, wherein the exhaust gas purification device gas includes a catalyst that has an active element and a carrier, the active element being served for activating an oxidizing reaction or a reducing reaction of a specific component contained in the exhaust gas, the carrier being served for carrying the active element, wherein in the catalyst the active element forms a solid solution component in the carrier if a temperature of the catalyst is equal to or more than a predetermined first solid solution temperature and an internal atmosphere of the catalyst is an oxidizing atmosphere, and in the catalyst the active element is deposited from the carrier if the temperature of the catalyst is equal to or more than a predetermined deposition temperature and the internal atmosphere of the catalyst is a reducing atmosphere, and wherein the control unit is configured to calculate a deviation between a solid solubility that represents a degree the active element forms the solid solution component in the carrier and a target solid solubility, and the control unit is configured to operate the internal combustion engine to suspend a performance of the fuel supply stop control if the deviation is equal to or more than a predetermined first threshold value and the temperature of the catalyst is equal to or more than a second solid solution temperature.
