The recording device for telephone calls is connected either directly in parallel to the telephone connection line or to the terminals provided for ancillary devices and, depending on prior operating mode setting, is activated either automatically by an identified voice signal or manually by the pressing of a button. Immediately following activation, the date and time of the start of the call are stored on the information carrier by a speech synthesis circuit. Moreover, audible signals indicating that the call is being recorded are emitted for the parties involved in the call. The recording device is de-activated either automatically or manually. Furthermore, the individual calls are specifically marked for designated playback. According to the further developments indicated in the subclaims, each individual feature can be activated in anticipation by pressing a button. Moreover, a visual display device can also be provided to show the time and operating conditions. Depending on the feature settings, the call recording alert signal can be repeated continually at time intervals while the call is in progress.
