The invention relates to a rectifier circuit having a smoothing capacitor (C) in which currents containing harmonics are intended to be avoided on the AC voltage side. An additional current path (5) can therefore be switched on on the AC voltage side via a switch (S), which current path (5) has a series resistor (RL') corresponding to the load resistance (RL) of the circuit, and which switch (S) is controlled such that a continuous current flow is ensured. The invention can be used primarily in the case of rectifier circuits for supplying power to automatic handlers, with a relatively high frequency of the AC voltage. <IMAGE>
