<p>In a tartar removal handpiece which comprises an elongate gripping sleeve (1) in which there is arranged an electrically driven vibration generator (2) consisting of a trip coil (3) which can be exposed to an electrical supply current and a magnetostrictive transducer (4) located in the coil (3) and connected to a vibratory tartar removal tool (5) located on one end of the gripping sleeve (1) for the purpose of transmitting vibrations, a useless waste of the energy produced due to the collapse of the trip coil field which takes place during clocking of the direct supply voltage is to be avoided, and for this reason the handpiece has an additional current consumer (6), the feed circuit (7) of which can be supplied with current by the trip coil (3).
