A wiper device is proposed which serves for cleaning motor vehicle windows. The wiper device comprises a drive element which is operatively connected to two wiper elements resting on the window to be wiped. One wiper element is attached to one end of a wiper arm which transmits the drive movement and is connected to the drive element. So that the second wiper element can be connected to the first element without difficulty when the window is very dirty, the other wiper element is arranged on a carrier which can be coupled to, and uncoupled from, the drive element during the wiping operation.
