The hydrostatic drive unit consists of a hydrostatic pump (12) driven by the vehicle engine (11) to deliver fluid from a reservoir (13) through a pipe (14,17) to a fluid connector (18). Coupled to the connector (18) is a pipe (23) to a hydrostatic motor (22) to drive independent accessories, such as a circular saw, or an electricity generator. The motor supply pipe is provided with a flow regulator valve (24), to which is fitted a bypass pipe to return via the motor outlet pipe to a fluid return coupling (25) and back to the reservoir.
