Pyranones of formula (I) and their acid-addition salts are new (where n is 0 or 1; n' is 0 or 1; R is alkyl, benzyl or phenyll opt. substd. by one or more halo, or by an alkoxy group; R' is H, OH, alkyl, 3,4,5-trialkoxybenzoyloxy; or R1 and R2 and the attached N-atom may form a saturated ring when n is 1 and n' is 0; R2 is alkyl; or R2 and R3 with the attached N atom form a heterocyclic ring, R3 is H, alkyl; X is a simple or condensed ring forming with the adjacent pyronic ring benzene, cyclohexene, cycloheptene, cycloctaene, cyclododecaene, naphthalene, dihydronaphthalene, 2-phenylindene and diphenyl; R4 is H, halo, OH, alkyl, alkoxy, morpholinoalkoxy and aryl; R5 is OH, alkyl, alkoxy and morpholinoalkoxy; R6, R7 and R8 are H or alkyl). A typical cpd., 4-(3-morpholino-2-hydroxypropoxy)-3-phenyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrocoum- arin was prepd. in 77% yield.
