This device, permitting the centring of a cap 20 in relation to a previously positioned element 30, uses at least one screw 31 having two threads 32, 33 which are separated by a smooth portion 34. The first thread is first of all engaged via its end into a tapped hole 36 of the element 30, then the cap 20 is presented and installed and finally a nut 37 is screwed onto the second thread 33. The nut drives the screw 31 and, after tightening, it is applied against the external face of the cap 20 which is itself tightened against the element 30. Application to the mounting of a bearing cap 20 of an electrical rotating machine having a commutator, such as a starter motor for an automobile, the element 30 being a brush-holder washer. <IMAGE>
